Bhubaneswar, Sep 26 (IANS) A court here on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of BJD legislator Pravat Biswal, who was arrested by the CBI in connection with Seashore chit fund scam in Odisha.
The Khurda District and Sessions Court rejected the bail application, which was moved on the ground of Pravat's health condition.
Earlier, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court had rejected the bail application of the BJD MLA and sent him to Jharpada jail.
Biswal, who was admitted to Capital Hospital here after he complained about health, has been shifted to SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack following the recommendation of doctors.
The CBI arrested Biswal from Cuttack on September 19 in connection with a land deal with Seashore Group CMD Prashant Das, who is accused of duping about Rs 500 crore by floating various schemes in the state.
The investigating agency also said the BJD legislator was allegedly paid to protect business interest of Seashore Group.
Meanwhile, some civil society activists held a demonstration in front of the CBI office here demanding a speedy probe into the chit fund scam.
They also demanded that the politicians and senior officials involved in the scam be booked at the earliest.
