Indo-US joint military exercise met all objectives: Army

New Delhi, Sep 22 (IANS) The ongoing Indo-US joint military training exercise 'Yudh Abhyas 2017' that started on September 14 has met "all the desired objectives" and it has helped the armies of both countries "to develop the due synergy", the Indian army said on Friday.

The exercise is an ideal platform for the two countries to share their expertise on military operations, a defence release said.

"The theme of the exercise is to build and develop positive military relations and inter-operability to conduct counter terrorism, counter insurgency, regional security operations and peace keeping operations under UN Charter," it said.

The exercise included a brigade headquarter based command post exercise, expert academic discussions on strategic issues of mutual concern by experts of both countries and combined training between an infantry battalion of the Indian army's Surya Command (Central Command) and Stryker elements from the US Army.

"During the first week, participants were made familiar with each other's organisational structure, weapons, equipment, and tactical drills while command and staff officers of both sides worked in close coordination to collate intelligence to issue suitable operational orders to the combined field training components," the statement said.
