New Delhi, Sep 15 (IANS) A group of Youth Congress activists on Friday began a march to present eyeglasses to Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at his residence but were stopped by police.
The peaceful march was organised so because the minister has lost his eyesight and was unable to see the agony of common man reeling under the continuous rise in fuel prices, a Youth Congress statement said.
"Mr Pradhan please use these spectacles and see the reality, see the common man's suffering, see the fall in international crude oil price..... See the plight of common man and immediate measure to control the exorbitant rise of petrol-diesel price," it said.
Terming as "shocking" the remark of the minister, who on Thursday ruled out any plans to interfere with the fluctuation in the price of petrol linked with international crude oil price, the Youth Congress said: "It is shocking to have such an insensitive comment coming from a Union Minister, who has been bestowed with the responsibility of an important portfolio."
"If the minister fails to see the plight and take corrective measures, Youth Congress will be forced to take the protest to next level across India," it added.
