The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday said it has confiscated heroin, poppy husk, sedative tablets, cash and 15 mobiles from the residence of station house officer (SHO) of Amir Khas police station in Ferozepur district after he was nabbed red-handed during a trap.
"The accused, Inspector Sahib Singh, was caught on the spot by a vigilance team while he was demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from complainant Vijay Kumar of Jalalabad," a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said here.
The SHO had already received Rs 1,20,000 from the complainant to release his truck loaded with wheat and was demanding Rs 1 lakh more of which one instalment of Rs 50,000 was being handed over to him when he was caught, the spokesperson added.
"In this regard, the Vigilance Bureau has registered a case against the accused under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act," he said.
The spokesman added that searches at the office and residence of the police officer led to recovery of uncashed cheques, cash, 4.8 gm heroin, 580 gm poppy husk, 89 sedative tablets, 7.7 gm narco powder, six bottles of liquor and 15 mobiles phones.
