SP leadership frustrated over Lucknow Metro launch: BJP

Lucknow, Sep 6 (IANS) The BJP on Wednesday said the Samajwadi Party (SP) leadership was "frustrated" over Lucknow Metro services and accused the opposition party and its chief Akhilesh Yadav of trying to foment trouble outside a Metro station here.

State Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman Rakesh Tripathi said the frustration of Yadav and his partymen was indicated by their "petty deeds" after the inauguration of the Metro Rail on Tuesday by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

"The SP hoodlums deliberately created a ruckus in a conspiracy," the BJP leader said.

Tripathi referred to the Metro's inauguration by the then Samajwadi Party leader in December last year even when the project was not complete.

"The then Chief Minister did not even show basic courtesy of inviting local MP Rajnath Singh and the then city Mayor Dinesh Sharma, but was now trying to create problems," Tripathi said.

Tripathi said while the state had given Rs 1,003 crore for the Metro project, the Centre gave 14.58 per cent of the funds and also acted as a guarantor for Rs 3,502 crore loan from the European Investment Bank.

He accused Akhilesh Yadav of trying to hog full credit for the Lucknow Metro and to usurp the contribution made by the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre to the project.

The BJP government had invited Yadav to join in the inaugural run but he chose to be active on Twitter and tried to foment trouble through his ruckus brigade, the BJP leader claimed.
