New Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS) Student groups at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Wednesday announced their candidates for the students union elections of September 8.
Three Left groups -- All India Students Association (AISA), Students Federation of India (SFI) and Democratic Students Federation (DSF) -- have joined hands to beat arch rival, the RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
The top four posts in the JNU Students Union were bagged by the AISA and SFI last year.
The Left alliance has fielded Geeta Kumari for the post of President, Simon Zoya Khan for Vice President, Duggirala Srikrishna for General Secretary and Sudhanshu Singh for Joint Secretary.
The CPI-affiliated All India Students Federation (AISF) will enter the fray independently, with Aparajitha Raja, daughter of CPI leader D. Raja, as its Presidential candidate.
The ABVP and Congress-backed National Students Union of India (NSUI) have fielded Nidhi Tripathi and Vrishnika Singh for the post of President respectively.
The presidential debate is scheduled on September 6 and the election results will be announced on September 11.
Two independent groups -- Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students Association (BAPSA) and Bhagat Singh Ambedkar Students Organisation (BASO)-- are also in the fray.
