13 killed in Baghdad car bombing

Baghdad, Aug 28 (IANS) At least 13 people were killed and 25 others were wounded on Monday in a car bomb that went off near a building belonging to Iraq's Ministry of Electricity in eastern Baghdad, officials said.

The Islamic State terror organisation claimed responsibility for the explosion that took place at Jamila wholesale market in Baghdad's Shia district of Sadr city, Efe news reported.

Many nearby shops and stalls were destroyed and several civilian cars were damaged by the blast, reports said.

The blast came a day after Iraqi security forces recaptured a majority of Tal Afar city, located about 70 km west of the recently-liberated city of Mosul, from IS militants.

Commander Abdul Amir Yarallah said that troops recaptured al-Askari and al-Sinaa al-Shamaliya districts as well as the city's port and trade fair area, one week after an operation began to drive the IS militants out of the city.

He added the 15th and 16th Army brigades were advancing toward al-Ayadiya, the last town in Tal Afar still under the control of the militants.
