New Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS) Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday put the recruitment of teachers by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) on hold till a criterion is readied to give weightage to guest teachers.
The Delhi government and the Delhi Assembly had appealed to the LG to stall the recruitment process.
"On appeal from Delhi government and Delhi Assembly, Lt Governor holds teacher recruitment. I am sure guest teachers regularisation will get justice now," Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted.
The Delhi Assembly had, in its Monsoon Session earlier this month, also passed a resolution in this connection.
The DSSSB had released an advertisement for recruitment of teachers stating the existing guest and contract teachers would get "age relaxation" for the number of years they taught in government schools.
The advertisement, however, did not talk about any weightage to be given to them in the recruitment process -- which the government has been advocating.
The government is of the view that along with age relaxation to the existing guest or contract teachers, they should also be granted weightage or preference against the services they have rendered.
The public notice issued by the DSSSB on Thursday stated: "Directorate of Education conveyed to DSSSB, the decision of the competent authority, to keep its requisitions in abeyance in respect of all posts till further instructions."
"Accordingly, the vacancies for all the post codes (14/17, 17/17 to 80/17) of Directorate of Education are hereby withdrawn," the notice stated.
There are around 50,000 teachers teaching about 16 lakh students at government schools in Delhi, out of which around 17,000 are guest or contract teachers.
