Seoul, Aug 22 (IANS) South Korean President Moon Jae-in will visit Russia in September for a summit meeting with President Vladimir Putin, the Blue House said on Tuesday.
Presidential spokesman Park Soo-hyun said Moon would visit Vladivostok from September 6-7 to attend the upcoming Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), Xinhua news agency reported.
The South Korean leader would deliver a keynote speech at the forum established in 2015, and hold a bilateral summit meeting with Putin, the spokesman said.
The EEF is a regional forum for cooperation between political and business leaders from Russia and the Asia-Pacific countries.
The South Korean President will participate in the UN General Assembly in mid-September to deliver a keynote speech during the session, according to Moon's office.
The UN Security Council unanimously adopted a new resolution toughening sanctions on North Korea in response to Pyongyang's test-launch in July of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
During the UN speech, Moon will likely send a message to encourage North Korea to stop further provocation and return to a dialogue table for the denuclearised Korean Peninsula.
