New Delhi, Aug 16 (IANS) The government has decided to bring all knee implant surgeries under regulation in order to control their prices, Union Minister Ananth Kumar said on Wednesday.
Kumar said around 1.5 lakh knee implant surgeries are conducted in the country every year, adding that the move to regulate knee implant prices would save around Rs 1,500 crore for the patients.
"In our country there are 1.5 to 2 crore patients who need knee replacement surgery but hospitals, especially private ones, have increased prices to earn unreasonable profits," he told reporters here.
"To stop this rampant profiteering and make it convenient for people to get knee surgeries done, the government has taken this decision," he added.
