Export of over 22 carats gold purity items banned

New Delhi, Aug 16 (IANS) The government has banned the export of items of gold purity of above 22 carat-level.

According to a notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), issued on August 14, exporters have been allowed to ship-out gold jewellery and other articles containing gold up to a maximum limit of 22 carats.

The DGFT amended certain areas of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2015-20, to make the new changes.

As per the notification, exporters as well as EOUs, Electronic Hardware Technology Parks (EHTPs), Software Technology Parks (STPs) and Bio Technology Parks (BTPs) will now be able to export items containing gold of 8 carats and above up to a maximum limit of 22 carats.

"Effect of this notification... to allow export of gold jewellery (plain or studded) and articles containing gold of 8 carats and above up to a maximum limit of 22 carat only from domestic tariff area and EOU/EHTP/STP/BTP units," read the notification dated August 14.
