Ninth IHC Lok Sangeet Sammelan: An ode to classical music

New Delhi, Aug 14 (IANS) Continuing its efforts to promote and showcase India's rich heritage of folk music, the ninth edition of India Habitat Centre Lok Sangeet Sammelan left its audience mesmerised with its classical performances.

Curated by renowned classical singer Shubha Mudgal, the two-day event over the weekend was an attempt to draw mainstream attention on rare music anthologies and recordings to encourage the use of archival resources to widen the scope of performance repertoire available for music students and music lovers.

"Shubha Mudgal's is a relentless pursuit, sometimes, of obscure and little known trails, that yield the most satisfying results, and hoped that this edition of IHC Lok Sangeet will be a path breaking effort towards developing a holistic archival ecosystem in the field of music," said Vidyun M. Singh, Director Programmes IHC in a statement.

The musical event witnessed senior disciples of Shubha Mudgal performing compositions from the "Oonchi Atariya Rang Bhari" compilation of songs by Pt. Radhavallabh Chaturvedi, who dedicated his life to the preservation and promotion of the rich folk music traditions of Uttar Pradesh.

Vocalist Indrani Mukherjee enthralled the audience with her unique "Andaaz" to seasonal song forms like chaiti, kajri and horietc accompanied by Vinay Mishra on the harmonium, Vinod Lele on tabla and Bharat Bhushan Goswami on the sarangi.
