AI gets first external aircraft for MRO service

New Delhi/Nagpur, Aug 13 (IANS) National passenger carrier Air India on Sunday got the first aircraft from another airline for service at its Nagpur-based MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) unit.

According to the company, the aircraft belonging to budget carrier SpiceJet was brought for a "C1" check.

 

"This will be the first major maintenance work to be carried out for any external party at the MRO centre," the company said in a statement.

The MRO unit, operated by the national carrier's engineering services subsidiary Air India Engineering Services Ltd (AIESL), has been jointly set up by Air India and Boeing and is designed for undertaking maintenance work of any type and size of aircraft including Airbus A380.
