PTI moves Islamabad court for disqualification of Foreign Minister

Islamabad, Aug 11 (IANS) A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking disqualification of Foreign Affairs Khawaja Asif on similar grounds as the Supreme Court on July 28 disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member from Sialkot filed the petition seeking disqualification of Asif for concealing the facts that he was an Iqama holder (Dubai woork permit), legal adviser of a company in the UAE and his recent labour card was issued on June 29, 2017, the News International reported.

The Supreme Court on July 28 disqualified Nawaz Sharif as a Member of National Assembely on the basis of being an employee in a UAE company and not declaring his receivable assets.

Petitioner Muhammad Usman Dar has cited Asif, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and National Assembly secretary as respondents. The petitioner adopted he was a candidate for the National Assembly seat in 2013 general elections from NA-110 Sialkot on a PTI ticket.

According to the petitioner, Khawaja Asif is a full time employee of an Abu Dhabi based company -- Int Mech & Elec Co LLC (IMECL) -- and has been continuously employed since July 2, 2011. The petitioner has attached some documents with the petition on the basis of which he has claimed that Asif remained full time salaried employee of the company on various positions.
