Gurugram, Aug 9 (IANS) Monsoon rain lashed Gurugram on Wednesday as the millennium city witnessed the maximum showers of this rainy season, throwing normal life out of gear in the city.
According to officials, Gurugram received 32mm rainfall on Wednesday though people felt that it must have been much more than that.
The maximum rain recorded in the city till now was 31mm during the pre-monsoon spell on June 19.
The city also witnessed 30mm rainfall on July 1, but after that almost the entire July went dry.
According to the records at the Gurugram Deputy Commissioner's office, 25mm rainfall was recorded on August 1.
Knee-deep water-logging hit traffic movement on various sections of the Delhi-Gurugram expressway and the majority of the arterial roads.
"Water-logging was both in old and new city areas, including sectors 31, 32, 10A, and 50, industrial sectors near Begumpur (Khatola), Golf Course Road and Behrampur Road. Service lanes of expressway between Kherki Daula and Rajiv Chowk were also water-logged," a senior officer told IANS.
The building basements in some areas also got flooded with rainwater.
"More rain was received in different sub-divisions of the district during pre-monsoon days compared to the monsoon season this year," he said.
"Sohna area received total 140mm rainfall on June 30-July 1. Farukhnagar witnessed 76mm rainfall on June 29, but Pataudi and Manesar areas remained dry compared to other parts of the district," the official said, adding that "more rains are expected in the coming days."
