BSES offers Rs 1 lakh accident insurance for timely bill payment

New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS) In a novel move to boost timely payment of electricity bills, BSES discom in Delhi on Friday announced a Rs 1 lakh free personal accident insurance for customers paying bills before due date through Paytm for three consecutive months.

"Around 40 lakh consumers of BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Ltd (BYPL) can get free Rs 1 lakh personal accident insurance. All they have to do is pay their electricity bills through Paytm before the due date for three consecutive months," said BSES, one of Delhi's two distribution companies (discoms).

"The scheme will continue till August 2018. Moreover, consumers who have paid their bills before the due day in May, June and July 2017 through Paytm, will also be eligible for the scheme," the company release said.

"This scheme is being launched by Paytm exclusively for BSES consumers," it added.

"Consumer will receive an SMS between 1st and 15th of the following month from the insurance company as soon as (s)he will pay the third consecutive BSES Rajdhani/BSES Yamuna electricity bill through Paytm before the due date," the statement said.

"The policy will be issued only to a consumer who sends an acknowledgement 'Yes' in response to the SMS received," it added.

A discom spokesperson said that apart from e-wallets, consumers can pay their electricity bills conveniently at over 4,000 locations, through a wide spectrum of options, including BSES drop boxes, credit and debit cards, net banking, auto debit, neighbourhood Easy Bill, Money N Mobile, Hermes and Oxigen outlets, ITZ Cash Cards, bill payment kiosks, cheque in mail facility and RTGS or NEFT through banks for key consumers.
