New Delhi, Aug 2 (IANS) Some 773 students have been granted hostel rooms at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) out of the 1,080 applications received online, a first ever initiative, an official said on Wednesday.
"Nearly 1,080 students from the first list have applied for the online hostel initiated for the first time in JNU through the Office of Dean of Students, of which 773 students (non-Delhi-NCT residents) have been given on-spot hostel/dormitory allotment," tweeted Dean of Students Umesh Ashok Kadam.
"More hostel seats will become available as the outgoing students will be vacating this month," he wrote.
The accommodation has been provided to candidates who come under "Priority 1", as prescribed by the university. All Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, persons with disabilty, and foreign nationals and casual students come under this category.
A total of 1,289 students were admitted under the first list between July 18 and August 1. Admissions under the second list will continue till August 14.
