Man stabs wife to death in Delhi, held

New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS) The man who fatally stabbed his wife near Thyagaraj Stadium in south Delhi on Monday evening over her suspected extra-marital affair, has been arrested, the police said on Tuesday.

Santoshi was stabbed at least five times outside the Thyagaraj Stadium around 6 p.m. on Monday and was declared brought dead at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Trauma Centre, according to the police.

Police seized a blood-stained knife from the crime spot and arrested her husband, Vinod, from Mundka area of west Delhi on Tuesday morning.

Santoshi, 40, a mother of six, married Vinod, 34, a year ago since her first husband had died a couple of years back, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ishwar Singh said. Initially, the police said she had five children.

"During interrogation, Vinod claimed he saw his wife in a compromising situation with an unidentified person and killed her," the DCP said.

On Monday evening, Vinod took Santoshi to the INA Market in south Delhi and bought a knife.

"After the couple consumed liquor together, he took her near Gate number 1 of Thyagaraj Stadium and stabbed her multiple times. After confirming that she was dead, he threw the knife at the spot and fled to his cousin's house in Mundka," the DCP said.

The police said Vinod, a school dropout and unemployed, is a resident of Kotla Mubarakpur in south Delhi.
