Illegal liquor sale: Jharkhand CM for action against police

Ranchi, July 31 (IANS) Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Monday called for a ban on sale of illicit liquor in the state and ordered action against police officers of the areas where it is being sold.

Directing Chief Secretary Raj Bala Verma and DGP D.K. Pandey to take action, Das also appealed to panchayat representatives to ensure that illicit liquor is not sold in their areas. If any report is received, the concerned police station should be intimated, he said.

The Chief Minister directed that a complete ban on sale of illicit liquor be ensured in the state, says a press release of the state government.

"Strict action must be taken against the officer-in-charge of concerned police stations where it is being sold."

Das said all officers should abide by the direction in a sensitive and responsible manner at panchayat, block and district level. He directed the Chief Secretary, DGP and Excise Secretary to monitor it on state level.
