Glitch shut Catholic pages for a day: Facebook

San Francisco, July 20 (IANS) Facebook has blamed a technical glitch for a blip that shut down several Catholic-focused pages that have millions of followers.

According to a report in CBS News on Thursday, prominent Catholic pages on Facebook were rendered offline on Monday and were not restored until late Tuesday night.

"The shutdown prompted speculation among some page administrators that they were being intentionally censored," the report said.

Some users, who run Catholic pages on the platform, were told that their personal accounts were suspended for "suspected of suspicious activities."

After regaining access to the account, their pages were shut down.

A Facebook spokesperson has apologised for the disruption, saying the incident "was triggered accidentally by a spam detection tool".
