Chandigarh, July 11 (IANS) A 64-year-old man from Punjab attempted to commit suicide outside the Punjab and Haryana High Court building here on Tuesday and was rushed to a government hospital with burn injuries.
The man, identified as Surinder Kumar from Punjab's Dhuri town, had come to the court complex to submit an application to the Chief Justice demanding action against another person whom he accused of cheating him.
Police said that Kumar sprinkled himself with some flammable liquid and tried to set himself on fire. As his clothes caught fire, some people and police personnel saw him and doused the fire.
He was rushed to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital in Sector 16 with burn injuries.
Police officials said that Kumar was also carrying some poisonous substance which he tried to swallow but was prevented from doing so.
