Helen Thomas feels show with a message can usher in change

New Delhi, July 10 (IANS) Helen Thomas, executive producer of show "Generation Earth", says making series with a message can bring about a change in the society.

"Yes, I do (think a show with a message can bring about a change). We make such widely watched programmes, programmes on global warming, on medical documentaries and advancement in medical and technology, programmes on everything from food to globalisation," Thomas told IANS.

She added: "We are very audience focused, we look at many social questions that the audiences is asking. We try and find intelligent and interesting answers to these questions. Sometimes we come across things that perhaps Indians have asked or they may be interested in knowing. When we hear it, we try and make them into a happening subject."

"We believe that the way we can make things interesting is by telling stories about it."

"Generation Earth", which will air on Sony BBC Earth on Tuesday, depicts stories behind some constructions around the world. From the villages in China to the skyscrapers in the US, the show takes one through technological advancement that helped in creating architectural masterpieces.

Talking about the show, Thomas said: "With 'Generation Earth', we tried to find the most extraordinary stories to tell about the planet. So we looked at Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, how they built it that tall. We looked at world's megacity like Mexican city and what are the two absolutely crucial things that make the city work. We just try to find the most extraordinary stories and bring them to people's attention."

She feels the series will resonate in India well as it is a "very colourful series".

At present, Thomas is "making a series called 'Star Gazing' which is where we look at the wonders of space in the night sky".

"I'm also making a series about animals and animal surgeries and I'm making science documentaries," she added.
