Madrid, July 9 (IANS) Motorcyclist Enric Sauri, who was riding with the Motos Gaspar team, died on Saturday while participating in the Cataluna 24 Hours race which was being held at the Montmelo race circuit just outside of Barcelona, the race organizers confirmed.
Sauri, 33, died when his motorbike went off the circuit on the first corner and he collided with the crash barriers, reports Xinhua news agency.
"The rider went off the track... suffering multiple critical injuries and his situation of instability obliged him to be driven to the General Hospital in Granollers (a nearby town)," explained the race organizers in a communique.
"The Barcelona-Catalonia circuit profoundly laments the loss of Enric Sauri and we transmit our deep regrets to his family, friends and team," the communique adds.
The Spanish media reports that Sauri had competed in the Catalonia 25 Hours race on several occasions and was an experienced rider.
