210 arrested in Haryana after surprise raidsChandigarh, June 28 (IANS) At least 210 people have been arrested from various places following multiple raids conducted by special teams of the Haryana Chief Minister's Flying Squad, a police officer said on Wednesday.

Lakhs of litres of adulterated ghee and oil and spurious liquor were seized in the raids.

The surprise raids were conducted at 604 places across Haryana to check the manufacture of spurious products including illicit liquor as well as illegal plying of passenger and transport vehicles.

 

Cases were registered against those involved in illegal activities, Inspector General of Police Anil Rao said.

"As many as 160 criminal cases have been registered and 210 persons arrested," Rao said.

The raids were conducted at 111 locations related to the Excise and Taxation Department where 1.50 lakh illicit bottles of countrymade liquor, Indian Made Foreign Liquor and beer were seized.

He said the teams raided 68 places and seized 30,000 kg adulterated desi ghee, 22,000 litres of adulterated palm oil and 56,000 litres of adulterated mustard oil.

Besides, samples have been collected from factories manufacturing various food items and sent for testing. As many as 353 illegal gas cylinders were recovered during the raids.

Rao said the teams also busted a gang in Karnal involved in illegal trade of black oil and recovered from them 61,000 litres of black oil, 2,000 litres of waste black oil, 1,200 bags of chuna powder, 108 drums of tar and 45 bags of bitumen.

The teams conducted raids with respect to power theft at 56 locations.

The flying squad also impounded 243 vehicles, including buses, maxi-cabs, overloaded trucks and dumpers during surprise checking at 197 locations. These were plying in an unauthorised manner, Rao said.

"In a drive to check hospitals running without authorisation, the flying squad teams arrested 10 quacks during the surprise raids. Action has been taken in 54 cases which are being investigated by police," Rao said.

The teams also raided 29 places related to the Mining and Geology department, 25 related to urban development, 19 related to agriculture department and recovered trucks, trolleys and dumpers involved in illegal mining, he added.

Rao said that the teams also raided 10 places where drug trade was being conducted.
