Los Angeles, Jun 25 (PTI) Ron Howard has come on board to direct the "Star Wars" Han Solo spinoff movie after Phil Lord and Chris Miller left the project this week and the filmmaker said it was an opportunity that came his way.
Speaking at the Cannes Lions advertising and media conference, Howard, who won an Oscar to direct the 2001 movie "A Beautiful Mind", said he's been around the space-epic film franchise from the very beginning, reported Variety.
"I've been a fan forever. It's gratifying to be asked to lend my voice to the (Star Wars) universe," said Howard.
The director has already begun work on the project, with shooting set to resume from July 10.
"So many people involved in the 'Star Wars' franchise are friends. It's already been in production, and there's a lot of really great work there.
