New Delhi, June 23 (IANS) As many as 6,11,539 students have qualified the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to medical and dental courses, it was announced on Friday.
A total of 10,90,085 students appeared in the examination that was conducted in 12 different languages and across 1,921 exam centres.
Those appearing in the paper included NRIs, Overseas Citizens of India and foreign nationals.
"The all India merit list has been prepared in percentile determined on the basis of highest marks secured by the candidates in the NEET for admission to MBBS/BDS courses in medical colleges run with the approval of Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India," NEET Joint Secretary Sanyam Bhardwaj said in a statement.
These institutes do not include names like AIIMS and JIPMER Puducherry that were established through an act of Parliament.
Navdeep Singh from Punjab has topped the test.
Qualified candidates have to further complete formalities with the respective counselling authorities -- DGHS, Medical Education Directorates of States, etc for admission.
