Mumbai, June 21 (IANS) A string of Bollywood personalities like Rajkummar Rao, Hansal Mehta and Nimrat Kaur have expressed gratitude to Hollywood actor and three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis, who announced his retirement from movies, for inspiring them.
Day-Lewis' spokeswoman on Tuesday confirmed the news in a statement cited by Variety magazine, without giving a reason for the decision.
"Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment," the spokesperson said.
Here's what Bollywood celebrities had to say:
Hansal Mehta: We're privileged to be in a generation that produced a genius like Daniel Day-Lewis. My favourites- 'My Left Foot' and 'In The Name of The Father'.
Rajkummar Rao: No man. When the God of acting decides to quit. Thank you for inspiring me Sir. You'll be missed.
Nimrat Kaur: In awe and sad in equal parts reading this. Daniel Day-Lewis yet again walks the road less travelled. Artist extraordinaire. Legend. Respect.
Vishal Dadlani: One of the best! Sad that we won't get to watch him again. Then again, he never was part of the machine.
