Finding solution to Korea crisis everyone’s responsibility: China

Beijing, June 21 (IANS) China said on Wednesday that all the countries involved in the North Korean crisis should shoulder the responsibility of finding a solution and efforts on Beijing's part alone would not resolve the issue.

China's statement came in response to US President Donald Trump's criticism in the wake of the death of an American student following his detention by North Korea, Efe news reported.

"We have been playing an important and constructive role ... all parties should shoulder responsibilities," in the North Korea conflict, said Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Geng Shuang.

Geng's statements came after Trump's comments on Tuesday in which he said that efforts made by China and President Xi Jinping regarding the neighbouring country had not been successful.

American student Otto Warmbier died after being repatriated while in a coma from North Korea, where he was detained.

The Chinese spokesperson said that in recent years "China has stepped up its efforts to promote peace talks" on the Korean peninsula.

When asked about reports in the US on Tuesday about China's invitation to Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner to visit the country, Geng said he was not aware of any details, although he stressed: "China and the US have been in close touch at all levels."

"This is crucial for the steady development of our bilateral ties," he said.
