England’s Brunt positive ahead of Women’s Cricket World Cup

London, June 21 (IANS) England medium pacer Katherine Brunt on Wednesday said her team were positive about the upcoming Women's cricket World Cup, starting from June 24 here, and can add another title to their history.

England last won the tournament in 2009 in Australia, the same year in which they won the ICC Women's World Twenty20 at home.

Brunt said she wants the team to repeat that performance because this time the mega ICC event is scheduled on England soil.

"That year we happened to perform really well under pressure and we had the best year in the history of women's cricket. I believe, by winning the Twenty20 and World Cup and retaining the Ashes.

"We'd love for that to happen again this time and a home World Cup means our family and friends can come to every game and be a part of something special," Brunt, who was named England Women's Cricketer of the Year in 2006 and again in 2010, was quoted as saying by International Cricket Council's (ICC) website.

"It definitely is an advantage having home comforts. My family have never come abroad to watch me play, bar one time 13 years ago right at the start of my career."

"So, whenever I'm in England I really do love it because I get to have their support and see their faces before and after the game, regardless of the result," the 31-year-old added.

Brunt also said that they want to display some quality cricket and will try to make full use of the home conditions.

"We want to put on a show for those people who appreciate cricket and want to see a good game. We've got to make the most of a home World Cup," she said.

England will begin their campaign against India in Derbyshire on Saturday.
