Actor Tulasi’s Shankarabharanam Awards ceremony as a gesture of thanks to her guru, Dr. K Viswanath, will take place on 20TH June at Hyderabad.
In a unique attempt, Tulasi has done away with all boundaries and the awards will bring together pan- Indian talent without any divisions of geography nor language. The newly launched awards will honor winners from 5 film industries which include artists from Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi films.
Explaining this Tulasi says, “My guru and mentor Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee, Dr. K Viswanath has worked with both the Northern and Southern industries in his illustrious career. He stands for the unity of our cinema, a beautiful aesthetic medium that knows no boundaries of geography or language. Though we are still in the infancy and this is our first award ceremony, when he instilled faith in us and believed that we could handle the pressure of including other industries as well, we went ahead. In a short span of time, we chose the winners from 5 industries. Though we will be awarding a much longer list of technicians and artists from Telugu cinema, we have 4 categories each in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi for this year. This is because we had less time to organize the event this year. From next year, we will plan much in advance with a more uniform list.”
The team seems to have worked overtime to choose the winners from 5 industries. Winners will be chosen from the following 4 categories in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi this year:
Best Film
Best Director
Best Actor Male
Best Actor Female
A quick overview of the list of awardees shows up winners are:
Jr NTR for Best Actor ( Janatha Garage – Telugu).
Aamir Khan for Best Actor (Dangal- Hindi)
Alia Bhatt for Best Actor Female ( Udta Panjab- Hindi)
Dhanush for Best Director (Pa Pandi- Tamil)
Dulquer Salmaan for Best Actor (Oru Vadakkan Selfie- Malayalam)
Just like the film Shankarabharanam and its director Dr. K Viswanath touched a chord in hearts across all boundaries in the country, this award too seems to be a unique effort to unite the Indian film industry in the truest sense by honoring talent and hard work across boundaries.
