One of the arrested persons is a member of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), according to police, and the incident is believed to be one of political rivalry.
Police said at around 11 p.m on Thursday night, they were informed that two groups were engaged in firing in Bamheta under Kavi Nagar police station limits here, in which two persons had died and several were injured. About a dozen shots were fired, as per the information.

The deceased have been identified as Yogendra Yadav and his cousin Jugni. The injured persons are Akash, Davendra and Bhajni. They are undergoing treatment at the two hospitals under police custody, since they have been named as offenders in the FIR.
The other suspects named in the FIR are Gajendra Yadav, Amit Yadav, Titu, Nikky, Akash, Davendra and Fool Kunwar. They are all absconding and attempts are on to arrest them, said Inspector Neeraj Singh of the Kavi Nagar Police Station.
