BSF seizes foreign currency, medicine from Bangladeshi woman

Kolkata, June 5 (IANS) Border Security Force (BSF) personnel arrested a Bangladeshi woman from West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on charge of smuggling foreign currency, an official said on Monday.

The BSF personnel seized currency and medicine worth Rs 25.71 lakh from her possession.

Acting on a tip off, the BSF troopers kept close vigil near the Perapole border outpost and apprehended a Bangladeshi resident named Hasina Alam on Sunday evening.

"BSF has seized US Dollars worth Rs 19.33 lakh, Bangladeshi Taka worth Rs 1.4 lakh and medicine worth Rs 4.88 lakh from the woman among other valuables," BSF South Bengal frontier's Deputy Inspector General ARPS Jaswal said in a press release.

"The apprehended woman was handed over to Bongaon police station along with the seized items for further legal action," he said.

The South Bengal frontier of BSF has seized different foreign currencies worth Rs 3.91 crore from the border area and apprehended two smugglers so far in 2017.
