Bhatkal alleges human rights violation, court seeks Tihar Jail response

New Delhi, June 5 (IANS) A court here on Monday sought response from the Tihar Central Jail authorities on a plea of Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal, sentenced to death in a blast case, alleging human rights violations in the prison.

The court asked the jail authorities to file a response by June 8 on Bhatkal's plea, seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into alleged human rights violation and physical harassment in the jail.

Bhatkal was sentenced to death by an National Investigation Agency court in December 2016 in the Dilsukhnagar twin blasts case in Hyderabad in 2013. At present, he is in judicial custody in connection with several other terror-related cases.

In his plea, he alleged that he had been kept in isolation for the last four months, due to which he was suffering from mental and psychological problems. He was denied proper medical aid, food and water and was facing problems during the ongoing Ramadan month, where adult Muslims must keep a dawn-to-dust fast.
