AAP accuses Delhi Police of no action in e-rickshaw driver's lynching

New Delhi, May 31 (IANS) The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday targeted Delhi Police for making no arrests in the lynching of an e-rickshaw driver and demanded that Delhi Police chief Amulya Patnaik be summoned over the issue, while the BJP accused the AAP government of failing to fulfil sanitation promises.

Soon after former minister Kapil Mishra was marshalled out of the assembly for raking up corruption charges against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Health Minister Satyendar Jain, AAP member Alka Lamba raised the issue of no concrete action in the killing of an e-rickshaw driver by a mob.

"Delhi Police has failed to take any concrete action to arrest the culprits in the e-rickshaw driver's killing case. I want that the assembly should summon the Delhi Police Commissioner over the issue," Lamba said.

Her demand was supported by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and other AAP members. However, BJP member Manjinder Singh Sirsa raised the issue of sanitation and accused the AAP government of having failed to provide sufficient sanitation facilities.

"The AAP government had promised to make two lakh toilets but failed to fulfil its promises," Sirsa said amid the ruckus.

As the members started the blame game against each other, Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal adjourned the House for 15 minutes.

Ravinder Kumar, a 32-year-old e-rickshaw driver, was lynched by a group of youths after he objected to two of them urinating near a metro station in north Delhi.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening at around 8.30 p.m but Delhi Police has so far failed to make any arrests in the case.
