Heat wave conditions persist in Rajasthan

Jaipur, May 27 (IANS) Rajasthan continued to be face heat wave conditions with the mercury touching 48.3 degrees Celsius in Sri Ganganagar on Saturday while Churu was a bit lower at 48 degrees.

Kota was scorching at 47.2 degrees and Pilani at 47.1.

State capital Jaipur was hot at 45.1 degree Celsius, three notches above the average while the minimum was 32.7 degrees, almost five degrees above average.

The border town of Barmer was also hot at 44 degrees.

According to the weather department, severe heat wave conditions are likely to continue in few places in Rajasthan in next 24 hours at least.

"Rain or thunderstorm with rain is likely to occur at isolated places in east Rajasthan while weather would remain dry in west Rajasthan and heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are likely to continue in the state in the next 24 hours," a local meteorological department official told IANS.

Meanwhile to keep animals cool in zoo in Jaipur, authorities have put in coolers and created more sheds for the animals. Water sprinklers have also been installed in some of the cages.
