Brussels, May 24 (IANS) The city of Brussels will be at its maximum level of security for the US President Donald Trump's visit to Belgium on Wednesday and the NATO summit on Thursday, media reports said.
"On the eve of the NATO summit, we have already taken the maximum security measures as we now systematically consider a potential terrorist attack. Over 4,000 policemen will patrol in the streets of Brussels," Xinhua news agency quoted Brussels' mayor Yvan Mayeur as saying on Tuesday.
"We had a meeting a few days ago to discuss the security measures and evaluate every possible problem linked to the NATO summit. We are currently at the highest possible level of security measures," he added.
Considering the terrorist attack that killed 22 persons in the city of Manchester on Monday night, Interior Minister Jan Jambon said the terrorist threat level would remain at 3 out of 4.
For Donald Trump's visit to Belgium on Wednesday and Thursday, local newspaper La Libre also reported that the police authorities from Luxembourg and the Netherlands would help out to ensure the highest level of security.
The US authorities have also asked Belgium to apply a screening on every inhabitant living in the streets where Trump will be passing through.
