Security forces not involved in villager’s death: Police

Security forces not involved in villager's death: PoliceSrinagar, May 20 (IANS) A day after the body of a villager was found in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, police on Saturday said security forces were not involved in his killing.

The body of Muhammad Yusuf Dar, a resident of Gadoora village, was found on Friday by locals.

"Dar was killed by militants and we have registered an FIR," a police officer said.

But villagers and members of the Kashmir High Court Bar Association have alleged that Dar was killed by security forces.

The lawyers' body has demanded a judicial probe into the killing.

Dar was buried in his ancestral graveyard on Friday. Dozens of people shouting pro-Islam and pro-freedom slogans attended his funeral.

According to reports, some militants, who fired in the air to register their presence, were seen in the funeral procession.

The reports said the slain villager had been an overground worker of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant group.

Such overground workers act as eyes and ears of the militants.

According to intelligence agencies, keeping track of the movement of security forces and arranging shelter and food for militants are the main activities of such people.
