New Delhi, May 20 (IANS) On his first day in office, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's new Water Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam said that the water scarcity before the Delhi civic elections could be politically motivated.
Gautam, who replaced Kapil Mishra, said in a conference that he has instructed the Jal Board officials to look into the matter of faulty water bills prior to the elections.
"Many people whose water bills use to be negligible or zero, received high bills right before the MCD elections and many, despite enough water supply with the board, complained about sudden water scarcity in certain areas...I have instructed the officials to look into the matter and report to me within a week," said Gautam.
He said that soon all the meter readers of the board would be warned following several complaints of incorrect meter readings.
"I feel that there were political motives behind the water scarcity before the elections since then water supply was enough, so scarcity doesn't make any sense...I'm waiting for the report," Gautam said.
Asked if he smells any wrongdoing by former Water Minister Kapil Mishra, Gautam said that he doesn't have any ill-will against anyone but whoever is found involved in wrongdoing would not be spared.
