Minor raped by village folk singer in BengalKolkata, May 18 (IANS) A minor girl was allegedly raped by a village folk singer who took shelter in their house for a day in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, police said on Thursday.

Prabir Halder (36), a resident of South 24 Pargans district's Kultali, was arrested on Wednesday night for allegedly raping the minor girl in her house in Joynagar area," an officer from Joynagar police station said.

According to police, Haldar, who is a folk singer by profession, also practises as a quack in rural areas. He offered the girl some medicine and claimed it would improve her academic skills.

 

"Halder took shelter in their house on Wednesday afternoon and allegedly raped the girl inside the bathroom while the other members in the house were sleeping," the officer said.

"The accused has been booked for rape under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO Act). He has been remanded to 14 days in police custody," he added.
