Israeli settler kills Palestinian in West Bank

Jerusalem, May 18 (IANS) A Palestinian man was shot dead on Thursday and another was injured when an Israeli settler opened fire during a protest held in the occupied district of West Bank.

An Israeli military spokesman told Efe news that the demonstration turned into a riot when hundreds of Palestinians threw stones at Israeli vehicles in Huwwara village, south of the city of Nablus.

According to Ynet news website, the Israeli settler, who claimed that his life was in danger, got out of his car and started shooting when about 200 Palestinians threw stones at Israeli cars.

Palestinian news agency Maan identified the victim as Mutaz Hussien, 23, from the village of Beita in Nablus.

Hussien died "shortly after sustaining bullet wounds when an Israeli settler opened live ammunition on him during a peaceful solidarity march in the village", according to the news agency.

Palestinian journalist Majdi Eshtayya was also injured in the firing.
