Two killed in US tornadoes

Washington, May 17 (IANS) Two persons were killed and dozens injured after tornadoes and severe storms swept through several US states.

One person died and 25 were injured when a tornado hit a mobile home park in northwest Wisconsin on Tuesday, Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said.

Another person was killed when a twister hit a housing subdivision in Oklahoma, CNN reported.

The National Weather Service reported 20 tornadoes in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Wisconsin.

"I would describe it as total destruction... There's nothing but debris," said Fitzgerald.

Approximately 40 trailer homes were destroyed at the Prairie Lake Estate Mobile Park in Cameron, as well as a nearby turkey farm, according to Wisconsin Emergency Management.

In western Oklahoma, a twister ripped through Beckham County and killed one person.

The Oklahoma storm struck about 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, wrecking much of a subdivision on the southern fringe of Elk City, Oklahoma.

The storm knocked out telephone services into and out of the city. About 20 to 30 Elk City area homes and businesses were damaged and an official said crews were out overnight to help residents.

The south side of Elk City was hit hardest by the storm, said Mayor Bill Helton.
