Kerala Assembly Speaker asks ministers to provide answers on time

Thiruvananthapuram, May 17 (IANS) Kerala Assembly Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan on Wednesday expressed his displeasure at the laggardly manner in which the ministers provided answers to questions raised in the House.

The Speaker gave a ruling that all answers should be given on or before May 25, which is the last day of the assembly session.

Earlier, in response to concerns raised by Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, Speaker Sreeramakrishnan said that on perusal of his complaint it was found out that on May 10, of the 333 un-starred questions raised answers were available for only 19.

"Even today 244 of the questions still have to be answered, and this is most unfortunate. The office of the respective state ministers have to ensure that answers to questions are given on time," said the Speaker.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan when asked about the money spent by the state government in the case regarding police chief T.P. Senkumar, which it lost in the apex court, said he will give the reply in due course.

Senkumar was reinstated last month on orders of the apex court, which also slapped a Rs 25,000 fine on the state government.
