"The leopard was around four to five years old and the cause of death will be formally established after a forensic examination. Prima facie, it appears that the animal died to to internal haemmorage after it was caught in the trap," a Forest Department spokesperson told reporters here.
Not far from Bicholim, 30 km from Panaji, a full-grown tiger was similarly found dead some years ago in a metal snare, often planted on game trails by poachers to trap wild boars, much sought for its meat, which fetches a high value.
