Chandigarh, May 13 (IANS) Wheat procurement in food grain states Punjab and Haryana is nearly 192 lakh tonnes this season, fficials in both states said on Saturday.
In Punjab, the wheat procurement was over 118 lakh tonnes till Friday evening, out of which over 115.47 lakh tonnes has been procured by government agencies.
Farmers in Punjab have been given online payment amounting to over Rs 14,603 crore. 90 per cent of payments for the wheat procured at minimum support price (MSP) has been made, a spokesman said here.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Saturday enhanced the Cash Credit Limit (CCL) for wheat procurement in Punjab to Rs 20,683 crore.
Procurement in both states started on April 1.
In Haryana, over 73.62 lakh tonnes of wheat has arrived so far. Haryana has set a target of procuring 75 lakh tonnes of wheat this season.
The RBI had earlier sanctioned the CCL of Rs 17,994 crore for Punjab and nearly Rs 4,900 crore for Haryana for wheat procurement this season.Both states had procured over 175 lakh tonnes of wheat last year.
