Kolkata, May 9 (IANS) Heartbroken after one of his close friend's death, a teenage boy allegedly committed suicide in West Bengal's Nadia district, police said on Tuesday.
"Soumitra Dhali, 18, a resident of Nadia district's Fatepur village, attempted suicide by consuming poison on Monday morning. He died in the hospital at night," said a senior officer from Haringhata police station.
Police said they have recovered a suicide note from Dhali's room which shows he was depressed about his friend Sagar Mondal's suicide earlier this month.
"We have found a diary where Dhali has mentioned that he could not bear the pain of his friend Sagar Mondal's suicide and has hence decided to choose the same fate for himself," the officer said.
According to the the parents of the deceased, Dhali was close to Mondal and looked up to him as a mentor. He was in a state of shock after hearing the news of Mondal's death.
Mondal, a second-year student at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Nadia district's Kalyani, committed suicide on May 1 by hanging himself in the hostel.
