ACB registers three FIRs against Kejriwal’s deceased kin, others

New Delhi, May 9 (IANS) Delhi's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on Tuesday registered three FIRs against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's brother-in-law, late Surender Kumar Bansal, and senior PWD officers in connection with alleged corruption of Rs 10 crore.

The ACB is probing the case involving Bansal, who died on Sunday in a Gurgaon hospital, in connection with a drain project and improvement of kerbs from Shani Mandir to Bakoli village up to drain number six on the National Highway-44.

"Three FIRs were registered against (late) Bansal and Public Works Department (PWD) officers after it was noticed that the bills were cleared by different companies for different works," ACB chief Mukesh Kumar Meena told IANS.

The FIRs don't mention Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's name, although complainant Rahul Sharma, convener of NGO Road Anti-Corruption Organisation had accused the Chief Minister of helping his kin Bansal to get fake bills of around Rs 10 crore cleared.

"We have not come across Kejriwal's involvement during the probe; we have questioned senior PWD officers concerned. Some officers have been directed to join the probe," Meena said.

The matter was earlier probed by the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing but the investigation was later transferred to the ACB.

The matter came to light on January 10, the police officer said.

"Bansal got the pending bills of around Rs 10 crore cleared due to Kejriwal's influence. He set up three companies -- Ranu Construction, Pawan Construction and Kamal Construction -- in whose name he got the bills cleared from the PWD," non-governmental organisation General Secretary Vilav Awasthi told IANS.

Awasthi said he had submitted a complaint to Delhi Police for a probe into Bansal's death.
