New Delhi, May 6 (IANS) Delhi Lt. Governor (LG) Anil Baijal on Saturday complimented South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) over the work it has done towards restoration of the "Rock Garden" in Munirka and "beautification" of the space under the Andrews Ganj flyover.
The LG appreciated the work done by the SDMC "in restoring and maintaining the green lungs of south Delhi", his office said in a statement.
Baijal advised the SDMC to keep up the momentum of such work of transformation of urban spaces.
It took the corporation a mere eight days to clear the rubble and clean the area under the flyover and transform it into "a well-lit space with sculptures that showcase various yoga positions", the statement read.
The inspiration for the "Yoga Mudra Sthal", as the corporation has decided to name it, came from a Matunga Park below a flyover in Mumbai.
The SDMC Commissioner informed the LG that it had a target of developing 100 parks in south Delhi within one year.
The LG also congratulated the Public Works Department (PWD) for transforming the area under the Munirka flyover -- Munirka Village Park -- and dedicated it to public.
According to the statement, the civic agency (PWD) took only two-and-a-half months in transforming the area, which was once "encroached by unauthorised parking and... a malba (rubble) dumping ground".
Baijal made an appeal to the citizens to keep their surroundings clean and sought the support of "active residents, including women" in ensuring this.
