Mumbai, May 2 (IANS) The makers of "Game of Ayodhya", which has been refused certification by the censor board, on Tuesday said they they are hopeful to get justice for their film, "which intends to unveil the truth without hurting anyone's religious sentiment".
As the actors, producers and director of the film came together on Tuesday to launch the trailer of the film, director Sunil Singh recounted the film's problems when asked about the release date and certification.
"We are unveiling the truth of the historical incident of Babri Masjid and Ayodhya dispute based on the report of the Liberhan Ayodhya Commission of Inquiry. The story revolves around from the point of view of a journalist who reported the account during that time. We used original video footage of politicians from official archive.. nothing is made up," he said.
Central Board of Film Certification Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani said, in a statement, that "the film deals with the controversial issue of the masjid in provocative manner; it may cause defamation of individuals and body of individuals in the film. Entire picturisation is done in a way that it can affect communal harmony."
Giving no relief to the film, Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) Chairman Justice Manmohan Sarin said last month that the film, "projected as fictional love story of a journalist who wants to repent mistakes made by him of wrong reporting in the backdrop of the Ayodhya incident" and seeking to rely on the Liberhan Commission report "seeks to project the actual account of numerous highly controversial and disputed factual issues which are presently subjudice".
The director dismissed the apprehensions. "We have no intention to hurt any religious sentiment, I hope the concerned authorities will understand that. We have got suggestion from CBFC to change the story into a love story of the journalist or turn it into a documentary. As a creative person we have our creative expression."
Produced by Rachna Singh and Bhushan Agarwal, the film features Makrand Deshpande, Arun Bakshi, Abhay Bhargav, Vishal Singh among others.
