West Indies at 286/6 on Day 1 of second Test vs Pakistan

West Indies at 286/6 on Day 1 of second Test vs PakistanBridgetown, May 1 (IANS) An unbeaten second Test century by Roston Chase helped the West Indies score 286/6 on the opening day of the second Test against Pakistan at Kensington Oval here.

After their top-order failed to deliver on Sunday night, Chase (131 not out) and Jason Holder (58 not out) joined hands and forged an unbeaten 132-run record seventh-wicket partnership.

When umpires dislodged the bails for the day, Chase had played 207 balls and hit 17 boundaries. Holder, a little less assured, had reached 58, having faced 125 deliveries and struck eight fours.

For Pakistan, pacers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Abbas sclaped two wickets each while Shadab Khan, making his debut as the second leg-spinner alongside Yasir Shah chipped in with one wicket each.

The West Indies started off on a poor note as they lost their first three wickets in 17 overs with just 37 runs on the board, but Kieran Powell and Chase then added 65 runs of the fourth wicket to stabilise the innings.

Powell survived the first session but fell on resumption after lunch. A leg before wicket appeal off Amir with the batsman on 38 was ruled not out by Richard Kettleborough, only to be overturned on review.

Lower-order batsmen Vishaul Singh and Shane Dowrich also failed to step up as they were dismissed by Abbas and Khan. But Holder then came out of the crease and made sure the hosts went back to the stumps without any more wickets.
