Seal petrol pumps duping customers, orders Delhi government

New Delhi, May 1 (IANS) Delhi Consumer Affairs Minister Imran Hussain on Monday ordered a crackdown on petrol pumps duping consumers by supplying lower quantity fuel through illegal means and said that such petrol pumps should be sealed.

He also ordered stern legal action against the violators including lodging of an FIR.

The move came after reports from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh that some petrol pumps were allegedly cheating people by dispensing lower quantities of fuel by installing remote-controlled electronic chips in the fuel dispensing units.

"Operation of such rackets in other states is thus not ruled out," the government said in a statement.

Hussain ordered the setting up of teams to ensure that petrol pumps in Delhi do not indulge in unlawful installation of electronic chips or dupe consumers by any other similar means.

He also sought the cooperation of the public urging them to report any such illegal activity.
